Family, Fun, and Fishing!

I feel bad that I haven't posted in a while.  Here's a bit of what we've done this summer:

Dany's brother, Erlin, got married on June 9th!  I made my shirt for the wedding, as well as Miguel's tie.  It was great to be able to be there for another wedding in the family.  Congrats, Erlin and Jessica!

We went to SeaWorld with Fanny and Madeline twice.  The first time we went, we mostly just saw the different shows, though we missed a few of them.  The second time we went, they joined us later in the day and we did a child swap so we could all ride Manta and Kraken!  So much fun, and Miguel enjoyed spending time with his aunt and cousin.

                                                       (Aww...look the baby's nursing!)

Dany, Miguel, and I met up with my best friend, former roommate, and basically-should-be-my-sister Crystal for lunch one day at Golden Corral.  He loves his Aunt Crystal!

Dany, Miguel, and I went to Universal's Islands of Adventure with Crystal!  Miguel got to go on his first ride at a theme park, and we got to ride the big roller coasters and other rides by doing a child swap (meant I got to go on each one twice...once with Dany and once with Crystal)!  We had lots of fun!

We also went to Universal Studios, just the three of us, one day.  We had fun meeting characters, wandering around, and seeing shows. Oh, and Dany was a participant in the Fear Factor Live Show...he participated in the food challenge, but unfortunately they decided that the other guy finished half a second before Dany.

Dany, Miguel, and I have gone fishing quite a few times at the Dania Beach Pier.  It's so much fun, even when we don't catch anything, but we have had a little bit of success.  The first time we caught anything, we all caught little baby fish that we tossed back in.  The second time, Dany caught 2 Lookdown fish (tossed them back).  The third time, Dany caught 4 Blue Runner fish (only one had to be tossed back, the other we got to keep), I caught a Lookdown fish (tossed it back), and someone else gave us a Blue Runner they caught.

On July 24th, Miguel kept trying to take food off my plate while we were eating dinner, and actually took a piece of pumpkin pie off of Dany's fork, so we decided to start giving him rice cereal even though we were originally going to wait until he was 6 months old.  He loved it from the start, and wants to be a big boy and feed himself.

Our baby boy is just growing up too fast.  Here are some more of his little adventures the last few months.  We are treasuring every day with him, and enjoying each little step of his progression.

He laughs now.  He's quite ticklish, and even playing with him sometimes will get him to laugh:

He loves to play with his toys...and is not afraid to tell you what he wants:

He's also almost completely able to sit up by himself...still needs a little bit of help.  And he loves his toes, and watching shows and going to the movies with Mommy.  (We went to see Rango and Chimpanzee for $1 each at Regal Cinemas.)        (Sorry these are sideways...can't figure out how to rotate them...will try to figure it out later)

He's started sleeping in his crib for naptime, and sometimes even at night for a few hours at a time.  I always swaddle him up, and lay my old teddy bear next to him.  The other night he laid in bed for 20 minutes quiet, so when Dany and I went to peak in at him, he just smiled up at us....the little stinker!

Final big news!  We're working on potty training early.  Just kidding, at least mostly kidding.  I read an article about how some of the things that make it harder for toddlers to be potty trained is that they are so used to going in a diaper that they stop really recognizing that they are going and just do it, and they don't connect the words with it, and they are so used to doing it in any position with a diaper and clothes on that to put them on a toilet without any clothes or diaper is strange.  So I decided I wanted to try to follow some advice given in that article by saying "poo poo" when he's pooping in his diaper, and "pee" if I ever notice when he is peeing (right now it's only been if he pees while I'm in the middle of a diaper change or when he's in the bath).  They also recommended holding them over the toilet without a diaper on sometimes when they are going so they can get used to it that way.  The person who wrote the article said her kids were toilet trained between 12 months and 18 months because they had learned to recognize when they needed to go by their parents using these techniques.  So when I noticed him trying to poop tonight (he always gets this cute scrunched up face), I took him to the toilet and took his diaper off and sat him down.  He pooped and peed inside, which was so exciting.  He seemed to enjoy that Mom and Dad gave him attention for being a big boy on the toilet.

Anyways, that's all for now.  Hope you enjoyed reading about our little man's adventures over the last few months.  We love him and love sharing about his growth with everyone.
